The Special Services Department at ESD 123 provides a range of services to schools and communities with special needs students. These services may include many types of “related services” for a student in addition to consultation with school staff for program reviews and program compliance work with OSPI. The Special Services Department also provides Pre-Employment Transition Services, Early Intervention Services, and supports the training needs of its districts within the region.
The ESD 123 Special Education Consortium strives to enhance regional capacity in order to recruit and retain hard-to-find special education personnel, while helping manage costs, promoting consistency in services and increasing collaboration through improved communication for participating districts. This Consortium provides related services including, but not limited to, Orientation and Mobility, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Braille, School Psychology, Speech Language Pathology, Deaf Education, and Occupational and Physical Therapy Services.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines related services as “transportation and such developmental, corrective and other supportive services as required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education…”
The ESD Special Services Department also maintains strong connections with local, regional, and state experts in helping provide the necessary referrals for our constituents and community patrons.
