Science of Reading 101

Science of Reading 101: Bringing Structured Literacy Into the Hands of Our Leaners. Three young students with an open book and writing in notebooks

The Science of Reading creates a comprehensive understanding of how the brain learns to read and the processes involved. Thousands of investigations, undertaken in a variety of languages, have led to the understanding of how to support scholars as they learn to "break the C.O.D.E." of complex text. Utilizing critical Tier 1 tenets, including structured literacy routines, these evidence-based strategies are appropriate for all students, but particularly important for those needing additional support to become strong readers.

Science of Reading 101 helps educators, school leaders and district personnel create a shared understanding of the science of reading and structured literacy in order to support teachers who will be able to implement strategies and create equitable learning opportunities for all learners.
