While you're enjoying summer, there are a few things to think about and plan for before students return to school for the 2023-2024 school year:
Immunizations
Check to be sure your child is up to date on all immunizations required to enter their new grade. Check with your health department to see if your child’s immunizations are current and for any new requirements. You can find more information and any new immunization requirements on the
Washington State Department of Health's website.
Life-Threatening Conditions and Medications
If you anticipate that your child will be taking medications during school hours next year, make sure that the appropriate paperwork is in place with your child's school. Check your school district's website or contact your school nurse for more information on necessary forms.
Vision & Hearing
Screenings are often done at school; however, it is always a good idea to get your child’s vision checked yearly by an eye doctor. Vision changes occur and corrective glasses may be needed even if they were not needed in the past.
Hearing
Screenings are also often done at school, but it is always a good idea to have your child’s hearing checked by a doctor who is able to promptly take care of any problems.
Dental
Dental checks are recommended every 6 months to keep your child’s teeth healthy. Getting a dental check done before school starts will help your child start the year without problems or pain.
If you have questions, be sure to check your school district's website or contact your school nurse.
