Students attended from across the region, coming from Prosser, Kiona-Benton City, Richland, Kennewick, Pasco, Finley, Columbia (Burbank), Prescott, and North Franklin School Districts to Columbia Basin College facilities in Pasco and Richland.

Students entering 6th-9th grade were invited to learn about STEM through robotics and video production. Students built their own Rover Robots, learning how to design them to overcome obstacles and bear weight, while learning the practical applications of robotics from the professionals who use them in their work. They also learned to write, film, edit, and publish their own videos. In one video, students cut together stock footage of sunsets over the ocean, timed to calm music, to create a relaxing montage as the final product.

During the week-long Health Academy, high school students also learned STEM skills through the lens of healthcare. Thanks to a partnership with CBC’s School of Health Science, students going into 9th-12th grade had the opportunity to explore various aspects of the health care profession. From practicing making sutures to cleaning teeth, students learned hands-on about the wide range of careers available in health care at CBC’s health sciences facilities in Richland.
