Applications are now open to participate in a USDA grant-funded Child Nutrition Cooperative for the 2023-2024 school year.
Team Nutrition Mentor Susan Wildey explains the fantastic opportunity for regional schools. This program is geared toward small school districts (<5000 students) and their food service directors, who can receive help with everything from staying in compliance and passing audits to applying for other grants and bringing more scratch cooking into the kitchen. This program is possible through a partnership between ESD 123 and ESD 101, which also aims to bring a similar Farm to School initiative to fruition in the future.
The highlight of the Child Nutrition Cooperative is having a mentor tailor the program to individual districts’ needs. Aspects of this program can be seen in action in the Finley School District, where Chef Kent Getzin worked with Food Service Director Carrie Hoburg, head cooks, and food service staff representing the elementary through high school to create a delicious meal from scratch.
Applications are open through mid-August. Apply here.
