As wildfires continue to create unhealthy and hazardous air conditions across the region, it’s important to protect students and staff from dangerous particles and gases present in smoke. Schools can refer to the Washington Department of Health’s Washington Air Quality Guide for School and Child Care Activities for recommendations to protect students from smoke exposure during school activities. You can find the air quality where you’re at with the Washington State Department of Ecology’s Air Monitoring Network. Learn more about DOH Air Quality recommendations: doh.wa.gov/community-and-environment/air-quality/smoke-fires

ESD 123 School Health Services and the Regional School Safety Center are also available to support school districts with student health and responding to and planning for emergency situations respectively.
