WOULD YOUR CHILD BENEFIT FROM EXTRA HELP IN MATH OR READING?

WHAT ARE SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICES?

Download the SES Brochure               Servicios Supplementarios Educativos
The term “supplemental services” refers to extra help provided to students in reading, language arts, and math. This extra help can be provided before or after school, on weekends, or summer.

WHAT IS THE ESD 123 SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION SERVICES PROGRAM?

  •   ESD 123 Supplemental Education Services is a FREE tutoring program in reading and/or mathematics for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

  •  The program is one of many services provided by Educational Service District (ESD) 123 in Pasco, Washington.

  •   Service is free for qualifying families, with all fees paid for by the school district.

  •  Tutoring takes place 2 days a week, often at your child’s school for one hour immediately after school.

  •   Instruction is individualized and delivered one-on-one or in small groups.

  •   Any student can benefit – at, below, or above grade level.

  •   Tutors are certificated teachers, often from the child’s school.

AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICES?

No. ESD 123 Supplemental Education Services is completely FREE to parents. As part of the No Child Left Behind law, when a disadvantaged child is attending a low performing school, federal funds can be used to provide supplemental services for that child. Your school district pays for the supplemental services out of a portion of their Title I dollars. Once the program is set up between you, the district, and the provider, the payments are made by the school district to the provider.

WHY CHOOSE ESD 123 SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION SERVICES?tutor2

ESD 123 has a long-standing history of providing successful after-school programs. Our Supplemental Education Services offers you and your child a convenient and effective tutoring program that has a proven track record for success. The program was developed by local educators to meet the needs of students in Southeastern Washington. We know what is happening in your school and district and will make sure our tutoring program supports what happens in the regular school day classroom.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD IS ELIGIBLE FOR SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICES?

Any school receiving Title 1 funds that has not made adequate academic progress for three years is required to offer free tutoring services to low-income children in attendance. If your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch and/or attends a Title I school that is designated as needing improvement for the third consecutive year, then your child is eligible. Ask your child’s principal if your family qualifies for free tutoring services. The district will also provide a list of state-approved providers to the family. Parents choose which provider has the best program for their child...ESD 123 is a smart choice.

ESD 123 Supplemental

Education Services is a student- centered extended-day learning program, often offered at school sites, scheduled for 2 days per week for one hour a day, right after school. Program services include instruction in reading and math for qualifying students in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

The additional academic support is provided by certificated Washington state teachers, along with paraprofessionals who are familiar with your child’s school district standards and curriculum. Student learning goals are identified using assessment information, along with input from the student’s classroom teacher.

Students will have an individualized educational plan that is developed with input from the student’s teachers and parents. The student plan will identify which educational strategy will best benefit the student, i.e., blending online learning with one-on-one instruction and small group instruction with teacher to student ratio of 1:5.
