Student & School Success

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was passed in 1965 and has since been reauthorized as the No Child Left Behind Act, which emphasizes equal access to education and establishes high standards and accountability. OSPI’s Office of Student and School Success is charged with providing differentiated accountability and support for schools identified as “priority,” “focus” or “emerging” through this Act. As a result, schools are being held much more accountable in making sure that they are providing a high-quality education capable of progressing all of their students toward high school graduation and, ultimately, college or vocational training.

In an effort to support each school’s efforts towards student and school success, ESD 123 works in conjunction with OSPI to provide regional support systems to these identified schools. Schools that are not making the appropriate amount of progress toward this goal are provided extra funding and/or support to help them incorporate research based best practices for school improvement into their culture.

ESD 123 understands that student and school success for all students is a value held by all of our schools, recognizing that every school is working hard to make certain that they have the necessary components in place to ensure that their students graduate college and are career ready. Although many schools in our region have not been identified as a target school through the ESEA, the student and school success supports offered through ESD 123 are available to all.
