Migrant Education

The ESD 123 Migrant Education Program is funded by the Washington State OSPI MEP Office and is contracted to deliver quality services to migrant project and non-project districts in the ESD 123 region. Dedicated to meeting the needs of our most at-risk population, the purpose of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.

The Migrant Education Program identifies migratory children as those students whose education has been interrupted during the previous 36 months due to a move for the purpose of finding seasonal or temporary work in agriculture or fishing. The mobile lifestyle of a migrant family faces numerous barriers; migrant children miss school because they or their parents are migratory agricultural or fishery workers, they tend to have more health related issues, and can be credit deficient.
