Superintendents from school districts across southeast Washington had the opportunity to meet with Senators Claire Wilson and Lisa Wellman on Tuesday, August 13th as part of the senators’ statewide listening tour.  The visits to each of the state’s nine educational service districts (ESDs) are part of Senator Wellman’s work as Chair of the Early Learning and K-12 Committee in the Senate.
Representatives from ESD 123 and local school districts meet with Senators Wellman and Wilson

Superintendents from nine school districts and Tri-Tech Skills Center attended the August 13th meeting hosted by ESD 123 and held at the Kennewick School District building.  During their meeting, superintendents discussed four top priorities impacting students and families in our schools:  the prototypical school funding model; special education funding; Career Connected Learning; and school safety.  The superintendents expressed their appreciation for the funding provided to school systems and the progress made during the most recent legislative session; however, both the superintendents and the senators acknowledged that there is still much to be done and significant equity gaps to be addressed.

Prior to meeting with superintendents, the senators also heard from teachers and early learning representatives in the area. ESD 123 thanks Senators Wellman and Wilson for their time and commitment to early learning and our school systems.
