More than 40 families of children enrolled in ESD 123’s Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program (ECEAP) received food boxes this holiday season thanks to donations from Community First Bank, the Blue Mountain Action Council (BMAC), and other community partners. ECEAP is a free, needs-based preschool program that provides comprehensive and family-focused services for children in eleven school districts. This year’s food donations helped families in Burbank, College Place, Connell, Prescott, Touchet, and Walla Walla enjoy the holidays.

Box of donated foodStaff from Community First Bank regional branches donated non-perishable food items, as well as some household items such as paper towels and perishable foods like oranges and potatoes. Community First Bank staff sorted the items into boxes specialized for ten families based on family size and composition. ECEAP Family Support Specialists Tonette Michel and Marina Cortez helped distribute the boxes among families in Burbank, Connell, Prescott, and Touchet.

At the Blue Mountain Action Council facility in Walla Walla, Family Support Specialists Maria Remington and Lupe Mendoza, ECEAP Administrator Diana Evenson, and community volunteers also prepared bags of food for 31 ECEAP families in Walla Walla and College Place. The bags included loaves of bread, soup, snack items, and items to prepare a holiday meal such as stuffing mix and potato mix, donated by the BMAC food bank.

This has been a tremendous show of support from our communities, which has helped families ranging in size from single parents with one child to a family of ten, as well as one family of five who is homeless. In addition to Community First Bank and BMAC, other community partners have shown incredible generosity toward our ECEAP families during the 2019 holidays including:

  • La Ramada Restaurant - donated a box of food and toys for Christmas
  • Walla Walla First Congregational Church - adopted two families for Christmas
  • Fresh Lime Coffee Shop – donated a box of food for Thanksgiving
  • Nazarene Church - donated two boxes of food for Thanksgiving

ECEAP is a free comprehensive, family-focused preschool program for eligible children aged 3-5. Learn more about the program at www.esd123.org/eceap or by calling 509.544.5704.
