Clock Hour Information
Misrepresentation or falsification of completion of inservice or continuing
education credit hours earned is unprofessional conduct and could result
in reprimand, suspension, and revocation actions respecting certification.
Clock Hour transcripts are mailed to District Human Resources Departments
in July.
We send official transcripts of clock hours to district Human Resources
departments in July for anyone who attended an in-service in the previous
year. If not employed by a district, the transcript will be mailed
to your home. For this reason, it is important that we have your current
address or current district of employment. Please email Gloria
Cartagena with
this information, if applicable.
We do not record classes you have taken through other providers, such
as out-of-state, private associations, districts that are their own
providers, or OSPI. However, if you would like for us to record classes
you have taken through OSPI we will be happy to record them at a cost
of $2.00 per hours earned.
If you have lost your copy of the clock hour form, you can request
a transcript for that particular class for a fee of $5.00. If you would
like a history of the clock hours that ESD 123 has recorded for you,
the applicable fee is $5.00. Please click here to download the appropriate form (PDF). Complete as stated and return to Gloria at:

Who can benefit from clock hours?
Teachers, Educational Staff Associates (Counselors, Nurses, Occupational
Therapists, Audiologists, Physical Therapists, School Psychologists,
Social Workers), Career Technical Educator certificate holders, Principals,
program administrators, and Superintendents who hold a continuing
level of certification who have the (150-clock hour requirement).
Educators needing the Issues of Abuse course requirement to advance
to the continuing level of certification may also benefit from earning
clock hours. Most colleges and Universities in Washington have incorporated
this class into their teacher-prep curriculum. You can contact your
college to get the number of the class that covers Issues of Abuse.
Out of State educators coming to Washington will need this class.
Educators wanting to advance on the salary schedule need to contact
their districts, as clock hours may be used to do this. This is a district
decision and most require some sort of paperwork. Contact your district’s
human resources department for more information. Clock hours will not
work if you are advancing from the first level to the second level
of certification. You must earn college/university credits for the
renewal to be valid. This excludes administrative roles such as Principals,
program administrators, Superintendents, and CTEs.
Educators with continuing level of certification (150 clock hours
requirement) may renew as soon as the clock hours are completed. CAUTION:
remember you are on a 5-year cycle, which means if you renew ahead
you have to remember that you cannot start earning for the next 5-year
cycle until July 1. For example, if your certificate expires June 30,
2006 you next 5-year cycle begins July 1, 2006. Any clock hours that
you have in excess will not count for the next 5 year cycle.
You cannot take a class for clock hours
and college credit if the class if offered with both options.
If you would like to offer clock hours for a training or class, please
