LINKING SCIENCE CONTENT TO CLASSROOM PRACTICE
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is partnering with the SE Laser Alliance and ESD 123 to offer professional development designed to enhance the science literacy of elementary teachers who teach science in grades K-5. Teachers will have the opportunity to deepen their own science content knowledge, skills, and habits of mind by working directly with PNNL scientists in a risk-free and fun learning environment.
DECEMBER SESSIONS:
Saturday, December 12, 2009
Location: EMSL on the PNNL Campus
8:30 am-11:45 am and/or 1:00 pm-4:15 pm (3 clock hours each sessions)
AM Session: Fossils
Immerse yourself into the world of fossils as you learn to bring this "dead" subject "alive." Learn the story fossils can tell as you examine your own set of fossils and the trade books that will enhance your new knowledge. Take home your own fossil set, trade books on fossils, and lesson plans.
PM Session: Ecosystems of Our Region
Integrate science, art, and literacy when thinking about our wonderful environment and its diverse flora and fauna. Understanding the connections with predators and their prey will bring this workshop to life. Take home a full-color landscape poster, beautiful watercolor images of animals and plants as playing cards, a NW Arid Lands book, and lesson plans.
