The Alternative Route Teacher Preparation Consortia is an opportunity for individuals to acquire teaching credentials who already have a 4-year degree and 1 year work experience. The goal of the Consortia is to prepare teachers in subject and geographic shortage areas to take jobs where they currently live. This program is a scholarship/loan program that provides the ability for individuals to obtain a teaching certificate in approximately one year after completing course study and a full-time classroom internship. Credits are earned through Central Washington University, Pacific Lutheran University, Heritage University, and Western Washington University.
Teachers are needed in the following subject areas: special education, general science, mathematics, middle school mathematics and science, chemistry, physics, biology, early childhood special education, English as a second language, and bilingual education.

In other words, this is the same assessment test that all applicants must pass before becoming certified as a teacher in Washington.
