Thanks to the leadership of Puget Sound ESD and Ready Washington, Washington State teachers can look to 44 amazing educators who represent a diverse mix of grade levels, subject areas and schools from eight ESD regions.  For our ESD 123 region (representing 23 school districts across Southeast Washington), two dedicated teachers are leading the charge:  meet Carina Stillman and Nicole Abel.

Carina Stillman is a high school English teacher in Prescott School District.  Her CORElaborate profile reads:

I am a mom and teacher doing the best I can to ensure that all of my kids have a positive educational experience. After 13 years of teaching HS ELA courses in my rural, K-12 school, I feel like I've done it all. I love learning, reading, writing, and traveling. Find me on Twitter--@carina_stillman #ReadyWA #CORElaboratewa #WATeachLead

Nicole Abel is a high school agriculture teacher in Waitsburg School District.  Her profile states:

Nicole teaches a range of Career and Technical Education courses at a small (~100 pop.) rural high school that includes Agriculture Science, Welding, Wildlife Management and Floral Design. She is CASE certified to teach Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR), Plant Science, and Animal Science. After teaching for 11 years, Nicole still feels like she can continue to grow in the profession and become a better teacher.

On January 7, the 2017 Teacher Leader Cadre kicked off with an event at PSESD.  Carina and Nicole were among the 44 teacher leaders learning about their new roles amplifying teachers’ voices via social media.  (Check them out on the CORElaborate Website and Twitter.)  Teacher leaders are tasked with accelerating the implementation and understanding of learning and teaching standards through teacher dialogue; and raising awareness among communities about the amazing learning/teaching happening every day in public education classrooms. In addition to monthly blog posts, teachers host and participate in two Twitter chats each month.

Through their social media platforms and professional learning networks, Washington State Teacher Leaders share their learning and resources with other teachers across the region and nation. Learn more about the efforts of CORElaborate WA and our local teacher leaders by visiting Follow Nicole @abel_aged and Carina @carina_stillman
