National Board Certification

National Board Certification is steered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The organization was founded in 1987 to maintain high standards for our profession. To certify, a teacher engages in a process of analysis and reflection to provide evidence of how one's practice aligns with these standards. National Board has recently revised the process so teachers don't have to do it all at one time. Teachers have up to three years to complete the four components, which allows them to focus on their positive impact on student learning.

ESD 123 supports National Board candidates on their journey to certification through cohorts hosted at various school sites throughout our region facilitated by trained National Board Certified Teachers. Candidates can register for the cohort that best fits their needs and be provided with component-specific facilitation.
