Web Accessibility Resources

Web accessibility and ADA compliance have become hot topics for districts across our state and our country. Section 508 of the federal Rehabilitation Act requires access for both members of the public and federal employees to technologies (such as websites) when developed, procured, maintained, or used by federal agencies. The Section 508 Standards address access for people with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities.  By addressing some of these major accessibility concerns, districts and other agencies can make progress toward ensuring that the public has equal access to information and functionality.

Common Website Accessibility Issues:

  • PDFs that are not accessible to screen readers
  • Alt text for images and charts
  • Labels and titles
  • Color contrast
