March is National Nutrition Month®. Great resources are available online for schools, work places, and families.  Check out these 10 tips for schools and families to get involved:

  1. Visit for great tips, tools, and activities.
  2. Start a school vegetable garden by planting seeds indoors or in the ground.
  3. School classroom: Ask children to carefully save empty food product labels and boxes. Spend some time reading labels and comparing information in the Nutrition Facts panels. Expand into a menu-planning opportunity.
  4. Read the handout "20 Ways to Enjoy More Fruits and Vegetables."
  5. Take a field trip to a farmers market or a local farm.
  6. Develop a lesson plan that explains the science behind ingredients needed for baking.
  7. Organize and sponsor a "Healthy Lunchtime Challenge" for your school district.
  8. Host a "MyPlate Champion" event in your classroom.
  9. Highlight ethnic and cultural food traditions. Offer special menu items from international cuisines or regional foods of the United States.
  10. Conduct a formal taste testing of new healthier versions of recipes that are being considered for school or workplace menus.
