Special Education Modules

Autism (ages 0-21)
A general overview and training will be provided in instructional strategies, resources, symptoms and manifestations of students identified as autistic.

Strategies for Dealing with Behaviorally Disturbed or Emotionally Disturbed Students
This training will assist districts in identification, programming, safety, staff development, and manifestation determination teams for students identified as BD/ED.

IDEiA 101-446 Individuals with Disabilities Educational Improvement Act 2005 (reauthorized federal law)
Better known as SpEd 101, this informational overview of the newly reauthorized federal special education law will update district personnel on changes that affect students with disabilities and their families. A second three hour block can be scheduled for administrators only (directors and principals) to focus on Discipline under the IDEIA as well as SPED processes, procedures and timelines.

IEP Writing (New & Improved IEPs)
Teachers and support staff will review appropriate IEPs utilizing
Barabara Bateman’s book Better IEPs . The four follow-up sessions
will provide staff the opportunity to enhance, correct or write their own IEPs with guided practice.

GLE’s and Special Education Part 11
Training will be provided in the use of the GLE’s for Writing and Science when developing IEP’s

Collaborative IEP’s- What are they and how do I do them?
Participants will practice and learn the process of developing appropriate IEP’s through a collaborative process that is efficient and a cost effective use of staff time.

Customized Trainings By Request
Districts may arrange individualized trainings as needed. Suggested areas: Paraeducator Competencies, Basic Skill Instruction for Paraeducators, Special Ed and 504, Discipline under IDEIA and SPED and Processes for Administrators, Child Development, Compliance.
