Olweus Bullying
Prevention Program
The Olweus [pronounced Ol-VEY-us] Bullying Prevention Program is
a comprehensive, school-wide program designed for use in elementary,
middle, or junior high schools. Its goals are to reduce and prevent
bullying problems among school children and to improve peer relations
at school through changing norms and behavior. The program has been
found to reduce bullying among children, improve the social climate
of classrooms, and reduce related antisocial behaviors, such as vandalism
and truancy. The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program has been designated
a Model Program by the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention
(OJJDP).
Outcomes
- Reduction of existing bully/victim problems;
- Improvement of school and classroom climate;
- Improvement of peer relations;
- Prevention of development of new bully/victim problems;
- Reduction of other harmful behaviors such as fighting, vandalism,
theft, alcohol/drug use, truancy and classroom misbehavior
Available on a consultant/trainer basis.
Cost : cost of materials range from approximately $800 to
$1,800 depending on school size. The cost for a two-day training
is $1,000 and cost for required consultation at one hour/month for
one year is $1,200. These costs can vary depending on your cooperative
status with ESD 123 Prevention Services.
