ESD 123 Welcomes New Assistant Superintendent Dr. Bob Smart

The ESD 123 Board of Directors has approved the selection of Dr. Robert (Bob) Smart as the new Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. Dr. Smart officially began work with the ESD on June 29, following the retirement of Dr. Judy Reault.

Though relocating from Boise, ID, Smart is no stranger to the Tri-Cities. He has served as a middle school principal and as the Executive Director of School Improvement and Assessment in the Richland School District, as well as serving as an assistant principal in Walla Walla.

Jed Morris Receives Honorable Mention for Youth Suicide Prevention

Jed Morris, ESD 123 Prevention Intervention Specialist, was honored with the Trevor R. Simpson Award - in honor of a teenager who committed suicide and whose parents advocate for suicide prevention programming across the state.

Morris was recognized for his leadership, deep commitment, and work towards youth suicide prevention within the Richland School District. Hanford High School, through the leadership of Morris, was recognized for their efforts conducting exceptional school-based youth suicide prevention during the 2008 - 2009 school year. The school will receive a trophy and a $500 check to help enhance their prevention efforts the following year.
